SPM Instrument obtains DNV GL Approved Service Supplier certification
SPM Instrument is now one of a few select condition monitoring specialists to be recognized as ‘Approved Service Supplier’ by DNV GL, the world’s leading ship and offshore classification society and one of the leading certification bodies.
The ‘Approved Service Supplier’ (AoSS) certificate is granted to SPM Instrument AB, Sweden and its Dutch subsidiary SPM Instrument B.V. / SPM Marine & Offshore B.V., dedicated to addressing the condition monitoring needs of the global marine and offshore industry. The certification is applicable to condition monitoring and diagnostics of all types of machinery onboard ships and mobile offshore units.
The incentive for implementing condition monitoring is the introduction of flexibility in the inspection cycle, which has a direct impact on profitability. For many shipping and offshore companies, the AoSS certificate is becoming a requirement when searching for a dependable condition monitoring supplier. Cooperating with an Approved Service Supplier can significantly reduce inspection requirements enforced by class. A well implemented and consistent condition monitoring program enables safe extension of the interval between overhauls and minimizes the number of periodic opening-up inspections.
The availability of performance data which can establish the working history and reliability of individual machines is beneficial to both operators and classification societies. Improved equipment reliability, extended inspection intervals and higher fleet availability all contribute to reducing total cost of ownership.
”We have worked hard to meet the request for AoSS certification from customers wanting to benefit from SPM technologies and competence in performing condition-based maintenance and machinery diagnostics according to class requirements. The certificate is a testament to our commitment to delivering high performance, quality assured products and services to our marine and offshore customers,” says Stefan Lindberg, Managing Director of SPM Instrument AB.
SPM Instrument provides effective condition monitoring solutions for all types of rotating equipment typically found onboard drilling rigs, heavy lift crane, pipelay, platform supply and seagoing vessels. The product line includes high-performance portable instruments and online systems for shock pulse and vibration as well as oil condition monitoring. Instrumentation is available also for Ex environments. The SPM service portfolio covers the entire process; from planning, turnkey installation and commissioning to global service, support and training. SPM condition monitoring solutions provide earliest possible warning of machine problems, giving crew and classification societies the information needed to make informed, confident decisions on operations and maintenance.
SPM Instrument has over forty-five years of experience in condition monitoring at sea. In 1965, Danish shipowner A.P. Møller employed an inventor to find a method for detecting defective cargo pumps before they broke down without forewarning. The inventor, Eivind Søhoel, thus invented the Shock Pulse Method (True SPM®, patented in 1969) and SPM Instrument has been present in the maritime industry ever since.
